COMMITTEE REPORTS
Registration - Sandra Fontaine
Plan for registration for a specified group of ARR races using a single race number for that
person to eliminate any need for standing in line. Will try this first with the Summer Series 2005.
Clothing - Ian Thomas
Shared new clothing ideas. More technical clothing and hats, some having sunscreen features, to be
offered at a competitive price. Will present some new lines of clothing to the members to get
feedback.
Goal is to develop a more current line of clothing for racing, training, and casual wear with the
club logo.
Request made for anyone that may have contacts with different clothing representatives.
Special Events - Louis Bolivar
Currently, the club has the Open Mile. Would like to add new events to the club calendar (track
events, a downtown mile, relays). Will pursue the new ideas later once ARR is more settled.
Newsletter - Adam Hunt and Jo Anne Bolivar
Sample of January’s newsletter presented to the members present.
Printer found to do printing, labels, mailing (mailing labels to be obtained from Angie Cure from
membership list).
Questions from members present:
Bodo Diehn: Can we do a newsletter one month and then the paper the opposite month? Can we
save the club money by emailing the newsletter?
Will the online version be edited with any changes in race information, etc?
Plan is to only do the newsletter, making it available on the website and provide the membership
the option of receiving it through mail, email, or both.
ARR RACES
Heart-to-Heart
Needs to be determined if the permit can be obtained. Voted at a previous meeting to be held on
Saturday, February 12, 2005.
Desert Classic Marathon
Currently waiting for approval from Rousseau farms for permission to use their land as part of
the property. Trying to solidify the course and obtain certification.
Mummy Mountain
Christopher O’Loughlin is the RD and will contact Ann Hay Ramsey regarding the race. Race date
will be planned for April 10, 2005
Crown King
Canceled for this year.
OUTSIDE RACES
Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA 5K, April 2, 2005
Tobi McCarthy is the RD. ARR will be providing timing for this event.
Future events
Jack will be contacting those that have recently requested ARR to provide timing for races. Goal
is to determine what races can be handled at a quality level with the current resources.
NEW BUSINESS AND QUESTIONS FROM MEMBERSHIP
Volunteer Coordinator
There is not currently a coordinator. Board is seeking someone to volunteer. Bill Strachan will
contact high school teams to offer a "work one/race one" program to recruit high school teams as
volunteers.
Board to determine volunteer incentives
Bylaws
Marty Michaelson presented new bylaws developed by the bylaw committee.
Concern raised about if new bylaws would be approved. Board will review the new bylaws and then
post for review by the membership. Members present stated they would like the membership to be
able to have a vote towards any changes in the bylaws.
Future Races
Burke Painter stated that he would like a list of races with all the directors listed. This is
available on the website under volunteers. The goal of the Board is to have RDs assigned for the
entire year.
PayPal
Bodo Diehn asked if someone would look into the cost of PayPal versus Active. Sandra will be
researching it.
Meeting Locations
Board would like to vary the meeting locations.
Plan for February is the standard board meeting at the Tempe office.
Bill Strachan will send a proposed location and speaker for the March Membership meeting.
Would like membership meetings to have speakers, runs, dinners, social events and involve groups
like Diabetes and Leukemia.
ARR Forum
Bodo Diehn suggested a forum using a listserve so that the members have a way to discuss issues
instead of waiting only once per month. Bodo stated he would look into the listserve.
Next Board Meeting: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 7:00pm at the ARR office.
