The ARR Board of Directors has decided that the South Mountain Classic 20K, 10K, or 5K will be the ARR membership run for this year. That means that the race will be free to new ARR members who join by September 15th, or ARR members whose membership expires after October 7th. In all cases, for the race to be free, the ARR member must complete a race registration form by noon on October 3, 2017.
The race starts and finishes at the South Mountain Activity Center in Phoenix. Take Central Avenue two miles south of Baseline Road to the park.
Registration begins at 5:30 a.m. The 20K begins at 6:30 a.m., the 10K at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K begins at 7:10 a.m. Please plan to arrive early! Park Rangers will be checking each vehicle before entering the park. This can cause a backup in traffic, especially nearing gun time. Click HERE to print your parking pass.
South Mountain Park requires all runners to be off the road by 10:00 a.m. Thus runners in the 20K must be able to maintain at least a 17 minute-per-mile pace. If you cannot maintain this pace for the 20K race, please choose a shorter distance.
Both the 20K and 5K are USATF certified courses. The courses are on roads only (no trails). The 10K is a new non-certified out and back course following the same route as the 20K, but turning at the 5K mark.
Runners pick up their bibs and race shirts on race day beginning at 5:30 a.m.
Awards will be presented to the first 3 finishers overall (male and female, no double dipping) and to the top 3 finishers in the following age groups (male/female): 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over.
Race visors are only guaranteed to runners who pre-register and pick up their visor before gun time. Remaining visors will be available to race day registrants and available for purchase after the gun goes off.
